For 1st race after Marathon, BAA sees bigger field

Boston • The field is filling up quickly for the Boston Athletics Association 10K, the organization's first race since the bombing of the Boston Marathon.

B.A.A. Executive Director Tom Grilk says there are only a few hundred spots left in the field of 6,500. The race did not sell out in its previous two years.

The B.A.A. 10K will be held this year on June 23. It winds its way along Commonwealth Avenue through Boston's Back Bay and Beacon Hill neighborhoods. The course does not travel on Boylston Street, where two bombs killed three people and wounded hundreds more on April 15. The 10K finishes near the Boston Common.

Grilk says he expects everyone to be more alert to security at the race. But he declined to comment on specific measures that are planned.
