The Westminster men's lacrosse team opened the MCLA National Championships with a 16-4 win over 15th-seeded Briarcliffe on Monday morning.

The second-seeded Griffins (15-5) advance to the quarterfinals where they will face the No. 10 seed Indiana Tech on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. (MDT).

"We just showed up and went to work today," Westminster coach Mason Goodhand said. "We got in late last night and had an early faceoff, but the guys didn't let it affect them and they came out and played hard."

Westminster led 3-2 after the first period, then dominated the final three periods. The Griffins used a 5-1 second quarter and a 4-0 third quarter to take control of the game. They finished with a 44-24 edge in shots while also posting a 30-25 edge in ground balls.
