I sympathize with the victims of shootings, bombings, floods and tornadoes. However, why — three days later — do I get on TV news 20 minutes of rehash and personal tragedies, eight minutes of ads and just two minutes of real news?

Even CNN has fallen victim to the 20/8/2 formula for today's TV news. It's as if nothing else is going on in the rest of the world.

So I've become a real fan of public television news channels from England, France, Israel, Korea, Qatar and other places around the world. They provide a different perspective and, even better, they provide current and truly important news. Why does all my news about Central and South America come from Al Jazeera?

Now, I only watch our American TV news on tape, so I can fast-forward through the 28 minutes to find the two minutes I was looking for.

Shame on our TV "news"!
