Michael Smith has already proven that he knows more sports trivia than anyone in the Pac-12. Now the recent U. of U. grad is out to prove he's the best nationally.Smith is in the finals of "The Schwab" on Wednesday's edition of ESPNU's "UNITE" (10 p.m. MDT). He's one step away from claiming bragging rights for himself and the Utes."This is pretty awesome," said the 22-year-old from Sandy, who admitted to being "kind of nervous" heading into the finals."The Schwab" is a revival of "Stump the Schwab," which ran on ESPN2 and ESPN Classic from 2004-2006. Contestants would match wits with sports trivia guru Howie Schwab and with each other.In the current incarnation, Schwab challenges three college contestants a week with questions from four categories - college sports, professional sports, pop-culture and social media.It's set up like a national championship. Smith beat Pac-12 opponents in the first round and then students from Williams College and UMass in the semifinals - all via Skype Smith and the other two finalists were flown to ESPN's headquarters in Bristol, Conn., for the finals.
