An 18-month-old child found floating in a backyard pond Tuesday has died.

James Ryder Young died around 11 a.m. Wednesday, according to Unified Police officials.

Unified police officers responded to a Taylorsville home at 5735 S. 3365 West around 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday after the child's parents reported the boy missing, according to officials. About noon, the boy was found in a nearby pond. The officer began CPR and arriving paramedics transported the toddler to the hospital.

Hansen said the father had been with the boy in the back yard and had looked down at his laptop, during which time the boy disappeared. When he learned the boy was not with his mother, the parents called 911.
