When the store debuts no opening date is listed it will be the third Apple store in Utah after openings in the past several years in downtown Salt Lake City and Fashion Place Mall in Murray. The downtown store originally was at The Gateway mall across from EnergySolutions Arena but terminated its lease early to move to City Creek Center late last year.
Apple stores generated an average of $6,050 in sales per square foot last year, more than any other retailer in America, including Tiffany and Co., according to RetailSales, which monitors sales of stores.
The Apple Store sells the company's popular iPhone, as well as its lineup of iPod music players, Macbook laptop computers and iPad tablets.
Microsoft has tried to replicate the success of Apple's retail stores by opening up a chain of outlets that sell computers and the new Microsoft Surface tablet. Utah's first Microsoft store opened last spring at City Creek Center.
