Park City senior Ben Saarel wrapped up an incredible high school career with state titles in the 800 and 1,600 at the Class 3A state track meet last month.

Saarel was honored as the Gatorade Utah boys track and field athlete of the year Thursday.

Saarel, who will compete at the University of Colorado next season, competed in the adidas Dream Mile in New York, which he won in 4 minutes, 2.72 seconds.

Saarel ends his high school career with the state record in the 800 (1:51.13), 1,600 (4:07.95) and 3,200 (8:49.08).

Sky View's Brenna Porter earned the girls' honor Wednesday. The senior won the 100 hurdles (14.51) and 300 hurdles (42.02) at the Class 4A state meet.

Porter plans to compete at BYU next season.
