It is not surprising that Exodus International announced it was abandoning its ministry to change the sexual orientation of gays ("Exodus group shuts down; apologizes for trying to 'change' gays," Tribune, June 21). It is amazing that it took Exodus so long to realize that it had embarked on a quixotic mission to change that which is immutable.
Exodus' adherents would have been better served had the organization conducted a comprehensive poll across all religious denominations to ask this question: If governmental or religious leaders were to issue an edict requiring you to change your gender attraction, whatever it is, could you do it? The answer would tell us all we need to know about the subject.
