Clippers complete deal for Rivers
NBA • Doc Rivers is the Los Angeles Clippers' new coach and senior vice president of basketball operations. The Clippers finalized the coach's move from the Boston Celtics on Tuesday after weeks of negotiations and reversals. Boston will get a future first-round pick from the Clippers for Rivers. The 51-year-old Rivers replaces Vinny Del Negro, who wasn't re-signed after the Clippers won a franchise-record 56 games and their first Pacific Division title last season.
Anchorage weighs 2026 Olympic bid
OLYMPICS • The city of Anchorage, Alaska, has formed an exploratory committee to help determine whether it should bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics. The 23-member committee, which includes four Alaska Olympians, held its organizational meeting on Tuesday.
Vancouver hires Tortorella as coach
NHL • The Vancouver Canucks hired John Tortorella to be their new coach on Tuesday. Tortorella was recently fired by the New York Rangers after they lost to the Boston Bruins in the second round of the playoffs in five games. The 55-year-old Tortorella replaces former Canucks coach Alain Vigneault, who took over for him as the Rangers coach last week.
