A multi-vehicle crash critically injured one person and caused hours of delays on northbound lanes on Interstate 15 near Parrish Lane in Davis County Thursday afternoon.

Events started with a three-vehicle crash, at 12:48 p.m., in which the three vehicles pulled into the right emergency lane, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The initial three-vehicle crash was result of a slowdown for a piece of metal debris in the road.

A second more serious crash occurred when an SUV traveling in the left lane hit some metal debris, lost control, veered right and hit three people involved in the first crash who were out of their cars, the UHP reported.

A medical helicopter transported a 16-year-old girl in extremely critical condition, said UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson. The other victims left the scene in serious condition, but their injuries were not considered life threatening, Johnson added.

All traffic lanes were closed initially, with two, and then three lanes later reopened.

By about 4;20 p.m., all traffic lanes were open.
