In "Wasteful sprinklers" (Forum, June 28), Karen Squires' letter about wasteful watering in Olympus Hills Park, she misses the basic point. City and county governments and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are the biggest wasters of water and electricity, period.
In the case of government, it is because it's someone else's money. I have reported sprinklers that are stuck and have taken 72 hours to fix, while I saw city employees driving by every few hours. Seems like it was someone else's job.
Xeriscaping drought-tolerant landscapes can be labor intensive, but let's see government properties xeriscaped before they preach water conservation to everyone else. They already have full-time employees, so it would save tax dollars.
