Here's what's happening today in pop culture:

• First-day box-office totals show a possible train wreck in store for "The Lone Ranger." We're not talking "John Carter" numbers, but close. [Entertainment Weekly]

• Usher picked the music to accompany Macy's 4th of July Fireworks show in New York last night – and a lot of people got ticked off that he picked a lot of his own songs. [The Huffington Post]

• "Man of Steel" star Henry Cavill is reportedly dating "The Big Bang Theory's" Kaley Cuoco, though this may just Penny trying to make Leonard jealous. [Buzzfeed]
