Firefighters in Cedar City plan to honor one of their own who died last month while battling a blaze in Arizona.

The Cedar City fire community will hold a benefit lunch July 20 to celebrate the life of Joe Thurston, who died in June fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire.

Cedar City Fire Marshal Mike Phillips reported Friday that the event will include multiple fire agencies and is designed to support Thurston's family. It will include a raffle, live music and food, among other things.

The event will take place at Cedar City Park at 3 p.m. Donations can be made to Thurston's family at Mountain America Credit Union, or by contacting Tina Ekker at 435-693-3774 or Toni Free at 435-592-2135.
