Fire crews late Monday were putting out a blaze the broke out in a large pit for municipal green waste storage.

The fire broke out about 10:30 p.m. at a mulch storage pit at 1790 W. Indiana Ave., said Salt Lake City fire spokesman Jasen Asay. The pit is about 200 feet by 300 feet and was containing the fire.

Lightning was reported in the area but fire investigators had not confirmed that was the cause as of Monday night.
