The Utah Symphony meets folk rock in a Saturday concert featuring songs spanning the Georgia-based duo Indigo Girls career.
Keith Lockhart, Utah Symphony music director from 1998 to 2009, will conduct the concert, and though he told The Tribune that he hadn't done a show with the Indigo Girls and a symphony orchestra, he was able to conduct his Boston Pops when Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers appeared in Boston.
(Lockhart is conducting July 19's sold-out Steve Martin concert with the Utah Symphony.)
Lockhart has been in Park City all week, saying he has enjoyed "being back in my old haunt." Besides Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers, Mrs. Paul Simon, Edie Brickell, will also perform with Martin.
As for the Indigo Girls, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, their last studio project was 2011's "Beauty Queen Sister," and are best remembered for their environmental activism as well as classic folk rock songs such as "Closer to Fine" and "Galileo."
In fact, Ray is also known in town as a supporter of local radio station KRCL, which she has immortalized in her solo song, "SLC Radio."
