Here's what's happening today in pop culture:

• Emmys, Emmys, Emmys! The nominations are out for the 65 th annual Emmy Awards. Best Drama: "Breaking Bad," "Downton Abbey," "Game of Thrones," "Homeland," "House of Cards" and "Mad Men." Best Comedy: "30 Rock," "Big Bang Theory," "Girls," "Louie," "Modern Family" and "Veep." [Vulture]

• If you're wondering why the center of gravity has shifted in the geek world, remember this: Comic-Con has started in San Diego. [USA Today]

• Screenwriter Vincenzo Cerami, whose collaborations with Italian star Roberto Begnini earned the pair an Oscar nomination for the screenplay for "Life Is Beautiful," has died at the age of 72. [The Hollywood Reporter]
