The new federal courts building is simply wonderful, with its limited decoration, measured textures and negative space. I like that it is glass, but not reflective, large but light, and will be a landmark for years.

As a veteran, however, I regret the new parking structure at the George E. Wallin Veterans Hospital. There was a need for parking. But the need to make it "camo" only encourages the separation of societies and is not a reminder many veterans need. The detailing on the building is poor, and as the surface rusts, the concrete will be an eyesore for ages. A simple box would have been better. All of society deserves good design.
