Two movies get a head start on the weekend box office today – and both deliver so-so entertainment.

For younger viewers, there's "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters," the second movie in the Greek-mythology fantasy franchise based on Rick Riordan's books. Percy (played by Logan Lerman) and his pals return for a quest to find the Golden Fleece – which they need to find to save the demigods' camp and prevent the evil Luke (Jake Abel) from bringing back the world-destroying Kronos. The movie is an effects-heavy adventure that swings too freely from serious to funny.

Grown-ups get the raunchy, R-rated comedy "We're the Millers," which starts with an amusing premise – drug dealer David (Jason Sudeikis) hires a fake family as cover to smuggle pot out from Mexico – and for a while generates some mean-spirited laughs from it. But as the script gets soft, and plays up David's relationship with his fake "wife" (Jennifer Aniston), the laughs peter out.
