Pivot wading boots from OrvisAvoiding angler distribution of invasive species takes a big step with the release of the Pivot. Gone are the sponge-like felt bottoms and shoelaces, replaced with the Boa lacing system and JStep rubber soles. The Boa steel wire dialed lace system allows for quick adjustment of the boots without the bulk and debris-grabbing laces of the past. Orvis was not entirely happy with its previous versions of felt-free boots and worked to come up with a "grippier" rubber for the center of the sole and a firmer, abrasion resistant outsole to provide durability. All wading boots, of course, still need to be completely dried or treated before being used in a new fishery. The boots will be available Spring 2014 for $179. http://www.orvis.com/

The Salt Lake Tribune is providing a look at some of the gear shown at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market last week at the Salt Palace Convention Center. Because the show is closed to the public, we thought we would share a peak with the public about gear coming to the outdoors world. Items will be featured on the Tribune's Hiking Utah and Fishing Utah blogs. An Outdoor Retailer package will also run in the Tribune. — Brett Prettyman
