A 23-year-old Logan man was arrested after police allegedly found his apartment marijuana grow while investigating a burglary.
Logan police officials said officers were called to the area of 100 E. 300 North at 2:30 a.m. Friday on reports of an apartment burglary. After collecting information from the burglary victim, the officer began leaving the apartment complex, but stopped after smelling "the overpowering odor of raw/unburned marijuana" coming from a window fan blowing from a different apartment in the same building, according to a police news release.
Other officers came to the area, and smelled the same odor. The officers then drafted a search warrant, which was signed by a judge. When police served the warrant on the apartment, they found 51 marijuana plants growing in one of the rooms, according to officials. Police also found "cultivation devices" used to grow the plants, and dried marijuana kept in containers, according to police.
The 23-year-old tenant was booked into the Cache County jail on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana, a second degree felony, and possession of grow equipment, a class A misdemeanor. Both crimes were enhanced because the apartment building is within 1,000 feet of a church or school.
Another man, a 27-year-old from Logan who did not live in the apartment, was also arrested. He was booked into the jail on suspicion of possession of marijuana by consumption, a class B misdemeanor.
