A man was in critical condition Sunday at a Murray hospital after he was stabbed, apparently at random while walking home from a family member's house.

Murray police Sgt. Paul Christiansen said police don't know what motivated the assailant to stab the victim at an apartment complex at 4 E. Regal St. (4690 South), and said the two men apparently did not know each other.

Christiansen said the victim was returning about 9:50 p.m. to his apartment from a family member's house when he was confronted by the man, 29.

The man used a knife to stab the victim in the abdomen, Christiansen said.

The victim was taken to Intermountain Medical Center where he remained in the intensive care unit, police said.

The suspect, who has a lengthy history with police and was staying with relatives at the complex, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault, Christiansen said.
