State colleges: BYU women's volleyball team beats Portland State

Alexa Gray had 13 kills as the BYU women's volleyball team defeated tournament host Portland State on Friday night, 25-22, 25-17, 25-17.

Camry Godfrey notched 32 assists as the No. 25-ranked Cougars improved to 3-2.

Utah 3, Texas St. 1; Utah 3, North Texas 1 • In Denton, Texas, the Utes won two matches at the North Texas Invitational. Chelsey Schofield had 13 kills and 13 digs, and Lea Adolph served five aces as Utah beat Texas State 25-17, 20-25, 25-14, 25-21. In the nightcap, Makenzie Moea'i Morgan Odale had 14 kills each as Utah beat North Texas 25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 25-16.

Utah Valley 3, Eastern Kentucky 1 • In Tucson, Ariz., Macky Treanor notched 21 kills and 12 digs, and Brookelyn Hall had 43 assists and 15 digs as the Wolverines beat the Colonels 25-21, 28-26, 21-25, 33-31.

Wichita St. 3, Utah St. 2 • Rachel Orr led the Aggies with 19 kills, but they lost 25-23, 17-25, 19-25, 26-24, 7-15 in Portland, Ore.

Nevada 3, Weber St. 0; UC Davis 3, Weber St. 0 • The Wildcats got swept in two matches in Reno, Nev., losing to the hosts 25-22, 31-29, 25-20 and falling to the Aggies 25-17, 25-15, 25-21.


The BYU men's team won the Utah Open, with Jonathan Nelson claiming the individual title on the 6K course at Murray Park in 18 minutes, 58.7 seconds, and teammate Tylor Thatcher (19:02.4) finishing second. The Cougars finished with 28 points, Boise State (34) came in second, and Weber State (66) was third.

Boise State (23) won the women's 4K race, followed by Weber State (56) and Utah (58). Boise State's Emma Bates won the individual title in 14:11.0. Weber State's Kelsey Braithwaite (14:22.4) finished third, and Utah's Susannah Hurst (14:34.9) was fourth.

Women's soccer

Weber St. 0, Boise St. 0 (2OT) • In Boise, Idaho, the Wildcats (2-0-2) played their third straight double-overtime game and came away with a tie. Weber State goalie Ryann Waldman made three saves to earn her second shutout of the season.

Westminster 1, Oregon Tech 0 • Lexi Tucker scored in the 89th minute for the host Griffins.
