Here's what's happening today in pop culture:

• Bruno Mars will be performing the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVIII (or 48, for those people who stopped using Roman numerals sometime around the reign of Charlemagne). [The Hollywood Reporter]

• On a fairly quiet weekend, the sci-fi thriller "Riddick" won the box office with $18.7 million. [Box Office Mojo]

• Word from Toronto is that the Oscar race is pretty much over, with the pre-Civil War drama "12 Years a Slave" the go-to favorite. [Entertainment Weekly]
