A former custodian at a St. George school was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for having a sexual relationship with a teen girl in 2009.

Richard Burditt, 45, was charged in 2009 with second-degree felony forcible sex abuse, dealing in harmful material to a minor, lewdness involving a child, and misdemeanor voyeurism charges based on a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl.

Burditt accepted a plea deal in February and pleaded guilty to forcible sex abuse and third-degree felony dealing in harmful materials to a minor. Last Friday, a 5th District judge sentenced Burditt to spend one to 15 years in prison for the second-degree felony charge, and zero to five years on the second charge. The judge ordered the sentences to run concurrently.

St. George police officials reported that an investigation into the alleged crimes began in September 2009 when the victim's mother contacted police and said her daughter had been involved in a sexual relationship with Burditt over a two-year period.

Burditt worked as a custodian at Sunrise Ridge Intermediate School. The victim did not attend the school where Burditt worked.
