If the fate of the Draper prison is still up in the air, why is the Prison Relocation and Development Authority requesting proposals for the redevelopment of the prison's current site ("Panel crafts rules for developers hoping to move prison," Tribune, Sept. 21)?
Is it a foregone conclusion that the prison will be relocated although many good arguments are being raised against it?
There's a lot of money to be made if the prison is relocated and the land redeveloped. All members of PRADA but one were appointed by our state's Legislature and governor. Our Legislature and executive branch are loaded with people whose livelihoods and/or elections are linked to real estate sales and development.
Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised if it seems that PRADA is jumping the gun, but it still smells bad.
