I spoke to Erik McKinney, ESPN.com's West Coast recruiting coordinator, today to catch up and see what the folks at the "Wide World of Sports" have been keeping tabs on football in the Beehive State.

I asked McKinney which prospects in the state are standing out to the scouts at ESPN.com.

On Jordan quarterback Austin Kafentzis (Wisconsin commit, Class of 2015): "Austin Kafentzis is a really intriguing kid because of the numbers he puts up and the fact that Gary Andersen was so intent on getting him. It always says something when a coach leaves a state and conference and is still coming back and getting an early commitment from [Kafentzis]."

On Granger offensive lineman Kenyon Frison (Utah commit, Class of 2014): "Kenyon Frison is a guy that really put himself out there by going to the NIKE Camps and doing really well. That was something that caught a lot of people by surprise. It's not everyday Oklahoma jumps right in the way they did with Frison."

On Cottonwood defensive end T.J. Fehoko (Undecided, Class of 2015): "We know all about him and his family, who has players all over the country. He's just the next in line."

On Brighton linebacker Osa Masina (Undecided, Class of 2015): "We have him 168 in our Class 2015 overall. Getting that early Stanford offer the way he did, that kind of tells you every thing you need to know about the kid."

On East linebacker Christian Folau (Stanford commit, Class of 2015): "He's obviously another guy that we all have our eyes on just to see what he's got the rest of this year to see if he can become kind of that big-time Stanford linebacker. Stanford has changed its reputation as a front-seven defense — the linebacker position at Stanford immediately becomes like Oregon and the running back spot. That kind of means a lot if Stanford wants you as a linebacker."

On the state of Utah's increasing Division I prospects: "I think it is a testament to Utah that you have to go in there now. You have to go at least give a look at the top two to three guys. It's not really a state you can skip over now."
