Happy Friday. Republicans in Congress are privately starting to show their anger toward Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for leading the party into the showdown over the government budget, and many are upset about the hard-line position they find themselves in. Topping the news: A car chase from the White House to the Capitol ended with a woman being fatally shot by police. The woman tried to breach two Washington landmarks, and officials say it was not an accident but did not link it to any bigger terrorist threats. [WaPost] [Politico] [CNN]

-> Rep. Jim Matheson has joined bipartisan forces to try and solve the shutdown by offering a six-month budget, rather than a six-week one. [Trib]

-> Utah's Women, Infants, and Children fund received an emergency federal grant in the sum of $2.5 million from the Department of Agriculture to help stay open during the shutdown. [Trib]
