LDS venerate polygamous founders, oppose gay unions

Once again LDS leaders are ranting against gay marriage because God intended marriage to be solely between "one man and one woman." ("Leaders say Mormons cannot condone same-sex marriage," Tribune, Oct. 7).

Why, then, do the church leaders continue to venerate Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, both of whom defined and acted as if marriage was between "one man and as many women as he could coerce into marriage"?
