The Utah Highway Patrol has identified a motorcyclist who was killed in a crash late Monday night in Millard County.

UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said 46-year-old Jon A. Murdock, of Delta, was riding his 2005 Harley Davidson DLI northbound on State Road 257 about 10:30 p.m. Monday when he suddenly braked as he approached the intersection with State Road 6, about 10 miles southwest of Delta.

The bike went into a skid, traveling into the intersection before tipping onto its side. Both the bike and Murdock then slid off the north side of the road, striking a wooden sign post.

Murdock, who suffered severe head and torso injuries along with a nearly severed arm, was first taken to Delta Community Hospital. He was then flown by medical helicopter to a Salt Lake City hospital where he later died.

Johnson said Murdock did not appear to have been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
