Provo • After initially suspending star linebacker Spencer Hadley on Sept. 17 for five games for violating the school's honor code, BYU announced Friday that Hadley has been cleared to participate with the football team and represent the university again.

Hadley has missed the last three games, against Utah, Middle Tennessee State and Utah State.

Hadley has been practicing with the team this week. However, it is not certain whether the senior will be allowed to play in Saturday's game at LaVell Edwards Stadium against Georgia Tech.

"His playing status for Saturday's game against Georgia Tech will be determined by Coach [Bronco] Mendenhall," football spokesperson Brett Pyne said in an email to various media outlets.

He offered no further comment.

Mendenhall said on the Monday after the 20-13 loss to Utah that he had given Hadley "specific criteria" that the player would have to meet by the end of the university's suspension.

"I didn't have a limit when I said that, but at the end of those five weeks, if he has met my criteria for him, then, man, I can't wait to have him back," Mendenhall said at the time. "If he hasn't, then it could be a little longer. I don't anticipate that, though."

Although BYU does not specify the exact nature of honor code violations, Hadley admitted to a Sports Illustrated reporter several days after his suspension was announced that he was punished for partying and drinking alcohol at several Las Vegas clubs.

BYU learned of the transgressions on Sept. 16 when a University of Utah compliance officer informed the BYU's compliance office that it had received a photo of Hadley partying at a Las Vegas club. The U. then forwarded the photo at BYU's request.

Through a government open records request, The Salt Lake Tribune obtained the photo, and a string of emails to the University of Utah from an emailer who referred to himself as "Darren Lucy" and a "die hard Utah Utes fan."

The emailer did not return requests for more information sent to the email address he used to contact the University of Utah, and The Tribune has been unable to locate such a person, let alone confirm whether such a person exists or is truly a Utah fan.
