Here comes winter — at least for eastern Utah.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch beginning Sunday night as a series of cold Pacific storms pass through the Great Basin and then into eastern Utah and western Colorado. Breezy and mild weather conditions are expected to give way to rain showers by Sunday evening and then turn to snow.

Snow is likely at high elevations but may appear at the base of mountains by Monday morning, with "significant" early season snowfall continuing into Monday evening.

As much as 12 inches of snow is possible, according to the alert.

Blowing snow may reduce visibility, particularly over mountain passes and at high elevations where whiteout conditions are possible.

The NWS expects temperatures on Monday to be well below normal throughout eastern Utah and western Colorado. The weather service said additional snowfall also is possible on Tuesday.
