A semitruck hauling produce caught fire Thursday afternoon while traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 in Tooele County.

The driver was able to safely exit the vehicle and call for help, the Utah Highway Patrol reported, but the truck and trailer were fully engulfed in flames.

Following the 1:15 p.m. episode, both eastbound lanes of I-80 were shut down for approximately one hour, before one eastbound was opened. The second lane is expected to remain closed until Monday due to damage to the roadway from the fire.

The fire occurred at about milepost 70, about 50 miles west of Salt Lake City.
