A tour bus driver died Monday after his bus rear-ended a utility truck with an auger attached to the back on Interstate 80 in Tooele County.

The truck and bus were traveling east about 34 miles from the Nevada state line when the truck slowed about 5:39 p.m. to turn into a median turnaround drive, said Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson. The bus collided with the truck.

"The auger impacted where the bus driver was sitting," Johnson said. The driver was killed at the scene. Troopers did not have information as to the tour's origin or destination as of Monday night, Johnson said. They also did not know the driver's age or hometown.

One passenger in one of the front rows was critically injured and flown to a hospital, Johnson said. That person's gender, age and hometown were not known as of Monday night.

Other passengers reported minor injuries, but the number of injured passengers and their conditions had not been confirmed as of Monday night, Johnson said.

The Tribune will report further details as they become available.
