Oregon officer shot at scene of fire; gunman is dead

Oregon City, Ore. • Authorities say the suspect in the shooting of a police officer in Oregon City, south of Portland, is dead.

The officer was shot while responding to a house fire Sunday afternoon and flown to a hospital. There was no immediate word about the officer's condition.

Clackamas County sheriff's Sgt. Dan Kraus told The Oregonian newspaper that the gunman was dead. No details were immediately disclosed about how he died.
