Logan • A gritty first half propelled Utah State to a 40-33 lead over USC, the first Pac-12 team to visit the Spectrum since 1977.

Shooting 60.7 percent from the floor, the Aggies cut through and shot over a Trojans team that is starting out under new coach Andy Enfield. Senior guard Spencer Butterfield led a balanced scoring effort with 9 points, while Jarred Shaw added 6.

A 12-0 swing midway through the first half got Utah State rolling, as the Aggies used their transition offense and stingy defense to gain an edge. USC eventually pulled back into a basket-for-basket battle, but only shot 41.9 percent from the field themselves.

J.T. Terrell led all scorers at half with 14 points for the Trojans.
