West Valley City police on Tuesday asked for the public's help in locating a "person of interest" in a botched home invasion last month that left one of the intruders dead.

Police Sgt. Jason Hauer said detectives want to find and take into custody Michael Gaines Caldwell, 25, whose 3rd District Court records show numerous past assault convictions.

Caldwell is described as black, 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds. Hauer said he is considered potentially armed and dangerous.

Robert Ebere, 29, was one of three gun-toting masked black men who tried to break into a home in the 7100 West block of Chula Drive on Oct. 30. Ebere died of injuries he sustained when male residents fought with him.

Police said the invaders targeted the home because one of the men inside was a self-confessed drug dealer. A search of the man's van and the home turned up drugs and cash.

Anyone with information on Caldwell's whereabouts is asked to contact the West Valley City Police Department at 801-840-4000.
