I read with great amusement the opinion column by Jason Chaffetz regarding the subject of deception, a topic it would appear he is quite versed in ("Deception of Americans is never acceptable," Opinion, Nov. 14).

How else could you explain a politician, elected to address the needs and concerns of his constituents, instead disrupting the lives of thousands of government employees by endorsing the shutting down of the federal government simply to make a political point?

In the 11 years I've resided in Utah, I have gained an appreciation of the nature of Utah politics. That said, sadly, I can surmise Mr. Chaffetz and the State of Utah truly deserve each other.
