Las Vegas • Kaycee Feild of Spanish Fork took a step in the right direction Friday night at the $6.25 million Wrangler National Finals Rodeo at the Thomas & Mack Center.

In search of his third straight world bareback championship, Feild finished second behind Steven Peebles of Redmond, Ore., in the second round.

Feild posted a score of 87.5, earned $14,723 and moved into the lead in the NFR average and overall world standings.

Like Feild, Caleb Bennett of Morgan also placed in the bareback for the second consecutive night. His score of 82 was good enough to tie for sixth place, which earned him $1,502.

After winning the opening round, Bennett has already pocketed $20,131 at the National Finals.

It was not a good night for the Wright brothers from Milford.

Neither Cody Wright, Jesse Wright nor Jake Wright completed their rides Friday in the saddle bronc event, which was won by Chad Ferley of Oelrichs, S.D., with a score of 87.5.

Meanwhile, in bull riding, Steve Woolsey of Payson also failed to score.

He failed to survive eight seconds aboard a bull named Bam Bam, which has now been ridden only five times in 22 career outings.
