Plans for tonight: Beware of Darkness at In the Venue

• Indie blues-rock band Beware of Darkness performs songs from its debut album, "Orthodox," at In the Venue, 219 S. 600 West, Salt Lake City. Show starts at 6. Tickets are $12, at Smith's Tix.

• Local surf-rock band Ahoy, Captain throws a CD release and farewell party at Kilby Court, 741 S. Kilby Court (330 West), Salt Lake City. Opening act: Mermaid Baby. Show starts at 7. Tickets are $6, at 24Tix.

• A screening of the space drama "Moon," starring Sam Rockwell as the sole occupant of a space-station outpost, happens at the City Library, 210 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City. After the film, Rob Morris, assistant education manager of the Clark Planetarium, will talk about why humans should return to the moon. The screening — the Science Movie Night, presented by the Natural History Museum of Utah and the Utah Film Center, which was postponed from November — is at 7 p.m. Free.
