A driver was critically injured after his pickup crashed into a parked Utah Highway Patrol cruiser Tuesday night near Parowan.

The trooper, Sgt. Ryan Bauer, was stopped near the median of Interstate 15 about 6:20 p.m., waiting for a wrecker to tow away a vehicle from a previous crash about 3 miles southwest of Parowan, in Iron County, troopers wrote.

A northbound pickup veered into Bauer's lane and hit Bauer's cruiser before also hitting the wrecker, troopers wrote. The pickup roled several times, and the driver was critically injured "with severe head trauma," troopers wrote.

The pickup driver was taken to a local hospital and then flown to Salt Lake City, troopers wrote.

Bauer and the driver of the wrecker were not injured.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, troopers wrote.
