Social media snafus are pretty commonplace these days, but a corporate communications head for the parent company of Vimeo and OkCupid may have taken the cake.

Justine Sacco, who uses the handle @JustineSacco, tweeted out "Going to Africa. Hope I don't get AIDS. Just kidding. I'm white!" earlier Friday.

Sacco's tweet has since gone viral and has been retweeted more than 2,000 times and favorited more than 1,000 times as of Friday evening.

IAC, the company Sacco works for, released a statement saying: "This is an outrageous, offensive comment that does not reflect the views and values of IAC. Unfortunately, the employee in question is unreachable on an international flight, but this is a very serious matter and we are taking appropriate action," according to ValleyWag, a Gawker Media blog.
