I watch the stock market hit new highs and the incredible wealth accumulate in the top 1 percent ("Top business story of 2013: Booming stock market," Tribune, Dec. 25). At the same time we see workers' pay stay stagnant and jobs hard to find.

Have we really forgotten what makes this country tick? Is all that money lining CEOs' pockets really building our economy? If all the cogs of the machine fail, then the owners of the gears fail as well. Remember what built this country: hard work not corporate meetings. Respect the actual machine, not the owners exclusively.
