Letter: Stores could help disabled shoppers

I was at a grocery store and noticed a lady trying to get up on her walker from her car. Even with the handicap parking spaces being close to the store, it is still a long way with the cold and ice of winter.

So I went into the store and asked the manager to see if they have one of those scooters to transport her from the car into the store. The manager then drove one out to her car.

Then I started to think, how many other disabled shoppers are there who have the same problem? How can they be better served? The solution may be a simple one.

Stores could place signs under those handicap parking signs that reads, "Need a scooter? Please call 123-456-6789," the store's phone number. They could simply call that number from their cellphones and someone could drive one of those scooters to their cars. This would help the disabled enjoy their shopping experience.
