Utah Highway Patrol troopers looking into a man's fatal head-on collision with a semi-trailer rig in Spanish Fork Canyon over the weekend still had unanswered questions on Monday about how and possibly why that tragedy occurred.
Killed when his 2000 Acura veered into the path of the oncoming big rig Friday night on Highway 6 was Gregory D. Leavitt, 34, of Pleasant Grove. The resulting collision ejected and killed Leavitt.
The crash closed down the highway at the mouth of the canyon until early Saturday morning after the semi jack-knifed and toppled, along with its two trailer loads of coal. The semi also caught fire, though the rig's driver, David Lewis, of Orem, escaped with minor injuries.
