Here's what's being talked about in pop culture:

• Action director Michael Bay walked off stage during a Samsung product demo at the Consumer Electronics Show, after a TelePrompTer malfunction left him having to ad-lib. If you've seen any of his movies, you know words aren't exactly his thing. [Entertainment Weekly]

• Welcome actress Sasheer Zamata to the cast of "Saturday Night Live." Zamata, a product of Upright Citizens Brigade, will become the first black woman on the "SNL" cast since Maya Rudolph left five years ago. But, hey, no pressure. [Vulture]

• Legendary Hong Kong movie producer Run Run Shaw — who essentially introduced the kung fu movie to Western audiences, bankrolled such Hollywood films as "Tai-Pan" and "Blade Runner," and influenced Quentin Tarantino and the Wachowskis — has died at the age of 106. [The Hollywood Reporter]
