A man hit by a FrontRunner train as it came to a stop at the Roy station remained in critical condition on Wednesday.
Roy Police spokesman Bryce Weir said the status of the 36-year-old man, whose name was not released, remained unchanged from Tuesday morning, when — apparently distracted as he crossed the tracks — he saw the oncoming commuter train too late.
Witnesses said the man was looking at something in his hand when he tried to cross the tracks on the north end of the station's platform about 7:48 a.m. Tuesday, said Utah Transit Authority spokesman Remi Barron.
Earphones thought to have belonged to the victim were found at the scene.
The southbound train was sounding its horn, but the man appeared not to notice it until he looked up at the last second and attempted to jump off the tracks too late. The train struck him a glancing blow, but it was still enough to break an arm and leg and cause head trauma.
