Salt Lake City police are looking for a gunman who fired a shot into the ceiling while holding up a downtown area pawn shop.

Police said the holdup occurred just before 3 p.m. Thursday at the EZ Pawn outlet, 235 W. 400 South.

The suspect — described as a 5-foot-8 white male of medium build wearing dark clothing, a ski mask and a backpack — walked into the shop, fired once into the ceiling, and announced he was robbing the business.

The suspect then smashed a glass jewelry display case, grabbed items from inside and fled the store, hopping on a bicycle to make his escape southbound.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call SLCPD at 801-799-3000.
