A skier died at Deer Valley Resort on Tuesday after he hit a tree, resort officials said.

The 65-year-old Florida man was skiing the Keno run about noon near the Nabob run on Bald Mountain when he struck a tree, confirmed resort spokeswoman Katy McEver.

"Unfortunately we don't know the surrounding circumstances" as to why the man hit the tree, McEver said. The run is rated intermediate.

A medical helicopter flew to the mountain, but the man had already died, McEver said.

The man was wearing a helmet, according to a press statement from Deer Valley.

The resort was not releasing the man's name.

The Tribune will post further information as it becomes available.
