Unified police are investigating why a Midvale couple lost power to their home and seemed to have died, in part, from the resulting cold.
Their names were not immediately released Saturday. Relatives had not spoken to an 87-year-old woman and her 79-year-old husband for several weeks, so they called police about 6:30 p.m. Friday to check on the couple.
When officers arrived at the home, near 7200 S. 1000 East, they found the couple had died, said Lt. Justin Hoyal.
The early autopsy results show that the couple appeared to have died from a combination of natural causes and cold-related complications, Hoyal said. He added that the autopsy results are only preliminary, and that the medical examiner's office is waiting on the results of a toxicology test before a final ruling.
The family and officers are looking into why couple's home lost power.
