A Vernal man was killed Monday when his car collided with semitrailer truck in Uintah County.

Monte S. Mitchell, 36, was driving a car east on U.S. Highway 40 at 12:47 p.m. Monday about 8 miles east of Vernal when he drifted into the oncoming traffic, the Utah Highway Patrol reported.

His Chevy Cobalt collided head-on with an oncoming semi. Mitchell was not wearing a safety belt and was killed in the crash, according to UHP.
